Wowie zowie! What an amazing week of music in Portland!  Honorable mention: (Wed) Ravishers, (Fri) Ice Cube, (Sat) Bright Eyes, Lauryn Hill, (Sun) Black Joe Lewis w/ Those Darlins, (Mon) Joy Formidable.  Whoopeeee!

1. Typhoon w/ And And And and Brainstorm

-Where: Doug Fir Lounge
-How Much: $10 (adv) / $12 (21+)
-When: Friday, April 8th – 9pm
-Why: After annihilating SXSW with nearly a dozen shows, hometown heroes Typhoon are back with an album release party for their latest EP, “A New Kind Of House”. The band will be donating all of their merch proceeds to Mercy Corps to help survivors of Japan’s devastating earthquake. Dig deep into those pockets! (See: Typhoon NPR Video)

2. Moon Duo, Eternal Tapestry, Young Prisms and Karen

-Where: East End
-How Much: $8 (21+)
-When: Saturday, April 9th – 9pm
-Why: With their new album “Mazes” out on Sacred Bones, this psyched-out San Fran duo continues to take their sound into uncharted territory. Don’t miss the opportunity to be mesmerized by their intoxicating sound. This East End billing also features local experimentalists Eternal Tapestry and their space jams (no movie relation.) This is a solid line-up—get there early!

3. Francis & The Lights

-Where: Peter’s Room – The Roseland
-How Much: $17 (All Ages)
-When: Tuesday, April 12th – 8pm
-Why: Led by Francis Farewell Starlite, the live show is propelled by two drummers, intertwining guitar, and synth. The term “and the Lights“ refers to the stage-lights and pixels making Francis & The Lights known for gripping, cinematic live performances. Sonically and visually delicious! (Also, Kanye)
