1. Hovercraft Records Showcase

When: Thursday, January 10th – 9pm
Why: Bacardi and Hovercraft Records team up for a night of with No Tomorrow Boys, Pataha Hiss, Hey Lover, Guantanamo Baywatch, Courtney and The Crushers, BOOM!, Suicide Notes, and the original line-up Clorox Girls. There will also be a very special reading from Justin Maurer (Clorox Girls) from his new book “Seventeen Television”! Come on out for cheap drinks, tons of new Hovercraft Records merch and some sweet surprises!

2. ELEVEN PRESENTS! BIG ASS BOOMBOX: A Loud Pop Festival
Where: Backspace, Floating World Comics, Kelly’s Olympian, & Someday Lounge
How Much: Free!
When: Friday & Saturday, January 11th-12th
Why: 40 bands, 15 writers, 4 venues, 2 days,  0 dollars! Check out the killer lineup! You’re intrigued, right? You’re totally stoked on this, right? Well you should be! This is the 2nd Annual and it’s still free! Featuring bands you love like: Lee Corey Oswald, Your Rival, Animal Eyes, Glassbones, Pheasant, Tiger House, Fanno Creek, Wooden Indian Burial Ground, Pigeons, Charts, A Happy Death, Beyond Veronica, and Teenspot.

3. Geographer w/ On An On
Where: Doug Fir
How Much: $10/$12
When: Saturday, January 12th – 9pm
Why: San Francisco threesome, Geographer, is known for their use of analog and electro-acoustic layers to create their signature soundscapes of “soulful music from outer space”. If you’ve been to one of their shows, then you know Michael Deni is know to sample and loop his vocals using his beloved Akai midi controller. The result is nothing short of a symphony of synth-pop wonderment you’ll simultaneously bob you head and slow dance to. Also, show up early to catch breakout Chicago/Minneapolis trio On And On. If synth-heavy indie-grooves are your thing, you’ll fall in love.

What’s Going On: 09/12 – 09/19

1. Animal Eyes w/ Fanno Creek, Pigeons & DJ Hunnyprawnz
Where: Holocene
How Much: $3
When: Wednesday, September 12th – 9pm
Why: You can find enough change in your couch to hit up Animal Eyes’ tour kick-off. A special blend of art-pop and folk-rock, this experimental group brings their upbeat urgency to the table time and time again. Pigeons and tourmates Fanno Creek will start the night off right.

2. The Fresh & Onlys w/ Grass Widow & Terry Malts
Where: Mississippi Studios
How Much: $12
When: Thursday, September 13th – 9pm
Why: Hot off the coattails of their latest release, Long Slow Dance, The Fresh & Onlys are back in town with some serious support – the endlessly talented ladies of Grass Widow and the infectious pop of Terry Malts. Do yourself a favor and get to this show on time – you won’t want to miss any of the Bay Area bliss.

3. ELEVEN QUARTERLY: Nurses w/ AAN, H∞kers & DJ JD Samson
Where: Mississippi Studios

When: Saturday, September 15th – 9pm
Why: Mississippi Studios and Eleven Magazine team up once again for a night bursting with local talent. Just by the band names alone you know this is going to be one heck of a night – we’ve got Nurses and H∞kers! Also, the amazing AAN and DJ JD Samson (of Le Tigre, MEN) . There will be prizes and surprises and lions and tigers and bears!

What’s Going On: 07/11 – 07/18

1. Pegasus Dream w/ Aan & Charts
Where: Doug Fir
How Much: $5
When: Friday, July 13th – 9pm
Why: Continuing with the Back to Basics Series compliments of Doug Fir and Bacardi, this low dough show is jam packed with super quality muscianship and guaranteed good times. Pegasus Dream will be celebrating their EP release, In Absentia, and the first 100 lucky people in the door will receive a copy of said EP. You can’t beat that. Oh wait, you can with Charts and Aan opening up the show.

2. Mississippi Avenue Street Fair
Where: It’s not just a clever name – Miss. between NE Fremont & NE Skidmore
How Much: Free!
When: Saturday, July 14th – 10am – 9pm
Why: With over 275 local vendors & crafts, 32 bands, and 5 stages there’s definitely something for everyone –  not to mention the delicious Grandfather’s Rib-Off Competition and the thirst-quenching Craft Beer Garden. Featuring Parson Red Heads, 1939 Ensemble, Animal Eyes, and Fanno Creek there’s no reason not to get your butt down to this free all ages event. 3. Nucular Aminals Tour Kick Off w/ Palo Verde, Still Caves & Reynosa
Where: Kenton Club
How Much: $3
When: Sunday, July 15th – 9pm
Why: For a mere $3 you get four killer bands – some maybe you have heard of, but all you most definitely need to hear. Nucular Aminals are gearing up to record with Steve Albini (Nirvana, The Stooges, Pixies, Mogwai, Cloud Nothings, etc) and need your support! In lieu of a kickstarter, the band has asked for people to pay $10 or more to download these demos as well as the finished LP once it comes out. Rad.

What’s Going On: 11/23 – 11/30

1. Blind Pilot w/ Point Juncture, WA
Where: Crystal Ballroom
How Much: $20
When: Wednesday, November 23 –7pm
Why: The Portland-based folk-pop group makes a stop at home while on their cross-country tour in support of the late summer release, We Are the Tide. The sophomore effort has been a consistent top-seller at Music Millennium and it’s no secret their heartfelt music makes it easy to instigate sing-alongs at their live shows.

2. Animal Eyes w/ Slow Trucks & Pony Village
Where: The Woods
How Much: $5
When: Friday, November 25 – 8:30pm
Why: Worldly indie rock that will move you and groove you with their beautiful harmonies and enthusiastic live performance. Get there early to enjoy the guitar-heavy sounds of San Francisco trio, Slow Trucks (reminiscent of Pavement and Built To Spill), and twangy indie-rock from Portland quartet Pony Village.

3. Into The Woods Quarterly
Where: Mississippi Studios
How Much: $5
When: Sunday, November 27 –9pm
Why: Showcasing some of the areas newest and brightest talents, this year’s second quarterly will feature the mind-blowing sounds of Hosannas (formerly Church), Sun Angle, Log Across the Washer, and Support Force. ITW will premiere the first episode of their new series, “Favorite Places” starring Hosannas and the 2,000-year old Ape Cave. If that wasn’t enough to get your foot in the door, Archers guitarist, Chris Cantino, will DJ the event.
