1. Sam Flax w/ The Memories, Boom! & Love Cop

Why: San Francisco’s latest contribution gives us pop experimentalist Sam Flax. The debut, Age Waves was composed, performed, produced, and recorded by Flax. It was released on cassette in February of 2012 and was one of the most overlooked albums of the year. With a proper vinyl release on The Sounds of Sweet Nothing and Burger Records you’ll want to grab yours before it’s gone.
2. Flight 64 10th Year Anniversary Benefit Show
Where: Alberta Rose Theater
How Much: $12
When: Friday, August 23rd – 7pm
Why: Celebrating 10 years of providing low cost studio access to Portland printmakers, non-profit printmaking studio Flight 64 invites you to party down with a kickass variety show featuring music from Magic Mouth, Onuinu, and Bonnie Montgomery. The fun doesn’t stop there – comedians Nathan Brannon, Shane Torres, and Jason Traeger will have you busting a gut.
3. The Woolen Men w/ Wimps & Hurry Up
Where: Record Room
How Much: $5
When: Saturday, August 24th – 8pm
Why: This shindig starts promptly at 8pm and you won’t want to miss a single minute of it! In fact, get there early, shop around, have a beer, and grab some delicious food from Taco Pedaler. Then brace yourself for a trifecta of trios with the sweet pop sounds of The Woolen Men, Seattle’s Wimps, and Hurry Up!

1. Finn Riggins (album release) w/ And And And & Grandparents
How Much: $8
When: Thursday, April 26th – 8:30pm
Why: With a recent record store day release from Tender Loving Empire (delicious 10” red vinyl) Boise, Idaho’s energetic indie rock trio will continue their celebration this Thursday. Support from two of Portland’s finest: last year’s WW Best New Band (in case you forgot) and a future contender for the title, Grandparents.
2. House of Light w/ Sundaze & The Dead Beat
How Much: $3-$5
Where: Langano Lounge
When: Friday, April 27th – 9pm
Why: Berlin’s underground rockers, House of Light, are headlining this benefit show for Portland up and comers The Dead Beat, who unfortunately fell victim to theft of their equipment. With special guests Sundaze, come out for some killer rock/shoegaze/noise-pop tunes and help raise some dough to replace the recently stolen gear.
3. Discos Humeantes
How Much: Free
When: Saturday, April 28th – 9pm
Why: Currently enjoying his second visit to the Rose City this year, Jorge Páez is the man behind the fantastic psych/punk/garage label Discos Humeantes out of Oviedo, Asturias Spain. Last time around, he had all kinds of gems from Brazil to Puerto Rico, and Madrid to New York. Come check it out!
