Why: You know it’s really summer when the line-up for East End’s Third Annual Smashed Block Party starts buzzing in your ears. Why: Dubbed as a Calgary supergroup, Ketamines was formed from the demise of Myelin Sheaths and Endangered Ape. The energetic psych-pop will leave your head spinning for days with their infectious hooks. Seattle’s best psych trio, Night Beats, have new material to share as well as the mind-numbing tunes from their self-titled released last year. Cosmonauts, hailing from Fullerton, CA bring the fuzzed-out primitive garage rock and newcomers PinkSlime will give them all a run for their money.
2. Willamette Week Presents: Best New Band 2012

Why: Featuring Willamette Week’s Best New Band of 2012: Radiation City! After taking 12th place last year, Rad City soars to the top and takes home the title with a whopping 165 points. This not-to-miss show also includes runner ups Pure Bathing Culture and Onuinu (4th place, respectively). Get their early to secure your spot, this free show will fill up fast! 3. Beach Fossils w/ Mac DeMarco & White Fang

Why: Formed by Dustin Payseur in 2009, Brooklyn’s Beach Fossils have undergone plenty of line-up changes while constantly touring in their three years of existence. With a solid and devoted fanbase throughout the country, the self-titled debut immediately received favorable reviews in 2010 and the band continued the success with 2011′s What a Pleasure EP. Their dreamy summertime jams will make you yearn for those long lying-on-a-blanket-in-the-park kinda days.

They describe their sound as “waves of prickling treble…warbled screams and distant melodies”. And even wetter behind the ears are newcomers The Dead Beat; an all-girl shoegazy quartet with influences like Black Tambourine, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and My Bloody Valentine.
2. YACHT w/ Onuinu & Key Losers

Why: ELEVEN PDX and Mississippi Studios present the first in a series of quarterly shows! We’re just a little excited about this adventure we’re embarking on with our friends Mississippi Studios, and what better way to kick off the series than an evening with YACHT! But just don’t show up late for the band you already know and love, come early for the love affair you’re about to start with the electro-pop disco-hop sounds of Onuinu. Key Losers, the new music project from singer/songwriter/guitarist (and only constant member) Katy Davidson, will kick of the night with melody-driven music.

1. Crocodiles w/ Bleeding Rainbows

Why: If you’re into the likes of The Jesus and Mary Chain, Echo & the Bunnymen, or Spacemen 3 then you’re definitely going to want to hit up this show. The lo-fi/shoegazy/noise-pop group hailing from sunny San Diego formed in 2008 with just two members, but has since expanded for their live performance.
2. White Fang w/ Orca Team & The Woolen Men

Why: Your favorite party band is playing with your favorite surf-pop post-punk band that relocated to Seattle. It’ll definitely be a treat to have Leif Anders and co. return to show us what the trio has been up to since leaving the Rose City. Show up early to catch indie-pop garage trio The Woolen Men.
3. Record Swap & Sock Hop!

Why: What better to do on a Sunday afternoon than join Green Noise Records, Mississippi Records, Clinton Street Records, and Little Axe Records as they take over Slabtown. Why: Put Burt Reynolds and ZZ Top to shame with the 2nd annual competition of everything facial hair. Freestyle stachin’ and beard mashin’ galore this Saturday at the Crystal ballroom. I’m sure there is a scientific term for a beard fetish, but I’m scared to google it. Anyhoo, this party is going to be worth growing to.
2. Sons of Huns w/ Belt of Vapor & Wizard Rifle

Why: The ferocious guitar and drum styling’s of this rock ‘n’ roll trio never cease to amaze. After killing it last weekend at Big Ass Boombox, these dudes obviously have no plans of slowing down anytime soon. Get your butts there and have a good time!
3. Youth w/ Still Caves & Chairs Missing
