What’s Going On: 11/07 – 11/14

1. Those Darlins w/ Heavy Cream & Dont
Where: Mississippi Studios
How Much: $12
When: Wednesday, November 7th – 9pm
Why: Post-election hangover party with Nashville’s rock’n'roll trio, Those Darlins! Whether your side won or not, wash it all away with these young and talented ladies and gentleman. In the spirit of The Ramones, each lady in the band took on the surname Darlin and with the addition of Linwood Regenburg behind the kit, their albums are only matched by their live show. Get there early for fellow Nashville all-girl quartet, Heavy Cream. You’ll only be sorry if you miss it.

2. Bath Party w/ Lunge & Young Dad
Where: Record Room
How Much: Free
When: Friday, November 9th – 8pm
Why: Portland’s Bath Party is the latest to hop on board the Cassingle and Loving It Records train. Those ladies at Record Room sure do have good taste, and this three-piece sure does know how to kick out the psychedelic surf jams. I dare you to try and not dance (actually don’t do that, you might explode from all the pent up dance moves). Did I mention this dance party is free? That gives you plenty of extra dough to purchase some vinyl and cassettes from the store’s eclectic inventory.

3. The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion w/ Quasi
Where: Doug Fir
How Much: $15/$18
When: Monday ,November 12th – 9pm
Why:  What’s already sure to be an amazing night with legendary New York trio The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, has just gotten better with the Portland’s own Quasi opening up the evening. Out on the road supporting their first studio album in eight years, JSBX still possess the stamina of the twentysomethings they were back in the 90s. After taking a small break from performing, the trio reunited in 2010 and haven’t looked back since. Word on the street is that they still produce energetic sweat-drenched shows.

1. KPSU & PSPS Presents: Grandparents w/ Broken Water

2. Quasi w/ Young Prisms & Stay Calm
Where: Mississippi

3. Hornet Leg w/ K-Tel ’79 & Hurry Up
Where: Valentine’s

Why: If you haven’t seen Hornet Leg, shame on you! But really, Valentine’s is my favorite place to see this primitive rock’n’roll trio. Also on the evening’s roster is K-Tel79’ with members formerly of Best Supporting Actress and Cat Fancy! Continuing in the trio-themed evening is Hurry Up, featuring Westin Glass and Kathy Foster of The Thermals.
