1. The Woolen Men w/ Bugs & Lame Drivers
Where: Record Room
How Much: $3-$5
When: Thursday, August 23rd – 8:30pm
Why: Returning from their West Coast tour in support of their self-titled July release, The Woolen Men are finishing up a couple last dates in Portland and Seattle. With Brooklyn power-pop tourmates Lame Drivers and Portland pop-punk duo The Bugs, you’re not going to want to miss this one. Bring some extra dollars for merch and beers (or wine, Record Room serves both!)
2. Night Beats w/ TBA

In 2012, just a few short weeks after releasing their debut EP, the band was picked up by Chicago’s Trouble in Mind Records who later put out their full-length album. I highly adding both to your collection.

When: Thursday, May 24th – 8pm
Why: Taking a little break from hibernation/recording to play a few shows over the next month, Starfucker joins forces with Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Wampire for an all ages show. Why: If the show it Branx is maxed to the teeth, or if you want a little more subdued-but-still-dance-party action, San Francisco’s Scott Hansen (TYCHO) takes the ambient-electronic and visual-design arts factor up a notch. This one is likely to sell out also, but the Doug Fir usually holds some extra tickets for when the box office opens at 7:30.

You can expect a couple of backup singers, swirling projections, and possibly floating in space.
*2B. Deer Tick w/ Turbo Fruits

How Much: $20
When: Friday, May 25th – 8pm
Why: Deer Tick is coming to town in support of their acclaimed 2011 record, Divine Providence, and their EP Tim. Chillwave. If you’re not familiar with this “genre” of music Wikipedia would be happy to tell you that “its artists are often characterized by their heavy use of effects processing, synthesizers, looping, sampling, and heavily filtered vocals with simple melodic lines” or they could just have a picture of musician/producer and chillwave pioneer, Chazwick Bundick. Better known as Toro Y Moi, Bundick and his band visited Portland at Branx Friday night showing us just why he’s been buzzing in our ears.
