What’s Going On: 8/24 – 8/31

1.  Grass Widow w/ Blood Beach, XDS & Nature
Where:  Mississippi Studios
How Much: $12 (21+)
When:  Thursday, August 25 – 9pm
Why:  If you don’t have a ticket already, there’s a good chance you can still get one at the door, but they will go quickly.  Grass Widow is an exceptionally talented trio from San Francisco.  It’s easy to stick the post-punk label on them, but these ladies break the rules more often than they follow them.  Check them out, go to this show, and thank me later. [Editor’s note: I’ll thank you now — they’re great!]

2.  Night Beats w/ Wooden Shjips
Where:  Doug Fir
How Much: FREE with RSVP: http://tour.sailorjerrypresents.com/ (21+)
When:  Friday, August 26th – 9pm
Why:  Arguably the best straight-up psychedelic rock out of Seattle—I’d venture to say the NW—Night Beats are no strangers to our city, and they’ll be flying across the pond to tour with The Black Angels soon enough.  Late June marked the debut of the band’s full-length on Trouble In Mind records and let me tell you, this trio puts on a face-melting show you won’t want to miss.

3.  And And And w/ Death Songs & Safe Word
Where:  Holocene
How Much:  $7 (21+)
When:  Saturday, August 27th – 8:30pm
Why:  Voted Best Band of 2011 (I wonder if they get tired of hearing this)…you know these guys; go to their show!  And if you don’t know these guys, then this is the night to do so.  A six-piece that plays rock music compared to the likes of The Kinks and Pavement.  Don’t miss Death Songs featuring Nicholas Delffs of The Shaky Hands!
