1. Old Wars
Where: The Knife Shop
How Much: $4
When: Thursday, August 11th – 9pm
Why: Current and former members of Jen Moon and The Gossip make up this post-punk power-pop duo. With Moon on bass and Kathy Mendonca on drums, the pair brings their love of the symphony and the riot grrrl scene together in the most delicious way. Look for their debut to be released this fall on Cassingle and Loving It Records.

2. Ganglians  w/ Heavy Hawaii
Where: Mississippi Studios
How Much: $12 (21+)
When: Friday, August 12th – 9pm
Why: Lo-fi psychedlia from Sacramento with a 60’s acid pop twist. The band has releases on Woodist and Captured Tracks, respectively, with an upcoming 7’’ on the latter. Show up early because you won’t want to miss the dreamy surf pop of Heavy Hawaii from San Diego. Grab some friends and make it a night on Mississippi because it’s sure to be one heck of a good one.

3. The Memorials w/ Empty Space Orchestra, NIAYH,
Where: Dante’s
How Much: $5
When: Saturday, August 13th – 9:30pm
Why: This Saturday showcase shapes up to be a nice little genre-sampler of prog rock. Headlining the show is grime-thrash band from the bay area, The Memorials. They will be joined by local band NIAYH and Bend, OR quintet Empty Space Orchestra. The experimental space rockers aka ESO is coming off a tour supporting a few Minus the Bear shows, so you’re getting a hefty value to see all these bands for about the price of a beer.
