A Blue Tuesday
Luxembourg’s Francis of Delirium played an energetic show last week at Revolution Hall’s more intimate venue, Show Bar. The trio led by principle songwriter and guitarist Jana Bahrich gave those gathered an opportunity to hear a spirited set by a young, dynamic band.

Bahrich, along with fellow musicians Denis Schumacher on drums and Jeff Hennico on bass, arrived to the stage with thunderous applause as the crowd eagerly awaited their arrival. Schumacher provided boisterous grooves and supported the band with ambient backing tracks. Hennico for his part created opportunities for greater rapport with Bahrich and the audience all the while holding down the rhythm section. The group seemed playful and their onstage chemistry was evident as Hennico and Bahrich enticed the crowd to clap, dance, and sing along.
Francis of Delirium feels like a playground for Bahrich’s lyrical and singing ability which both shone brightly on this fall Tuesday night. Songs like the apt “Blue Tuesday” evoked peak 90s indie rock hooks and had the audience dancing. even as the protagonist tries to figure our their lover’s wants. The song tells a tale of a scene in a cab. Summer vibes? Confused? So am I.

Other standout tunes included “Real Love“, a ballad whose chorus asserts that “real love isn’t real love if it’s not us” and tells the story of love’s newness while accepting its inevitable vulnerability. Similarly, the excellent “First Touch” from 2024’s Lighthouse also talks about the power of a relationship’s nostalgic ideal. Similarly, “Ballet Dancers (Never Love Again)” uses heavy guitar riffs combined with Bahrich’s soaring vocals to provide an unflinching narrative of the aftermath of a love’s demise.
Love can be fleeting, hard to describe, and at times impossible to understand. Jana Bahrich’s project Francis of Delirium provided her audience a joyous and thoughtful set of music from her growing catalog. She and the audience sang, danced, and rejoiced in the complexities of one our most difficult emotions.
