Local Portland producer and artist Kid Ferris just released his new album, Metanoia, on July 19th, 2024. Metanoia will be Kid Ferris’s first full album release since his EP, Vessels, released back in 2020. The album contains 10 tracks, ranging in style from chillwave to a subtle indie pop feel. This collection not only showcases his evolution since his last EP but also solidifies his ability to write and produce music.
Metanoia opens with “FaiTH,” a track that serves as a perfect gateway into Ferris’s personal music landscape. With its ethereal melodies and introspective lyrics, “FaiTH” sets the tone for the album’s unfolding. One of the standout features of Metanoia is Ferris’ evident growth as both a songwriter and producer. Compared to previous work from Ferris, Metanoia delves deeper into themes of introspection and spirituality, urging listeners to embark on a journey of self-discovery. The music itself offers a feel-good vibe, with lyrics also encouraging moments of deep reflection–a testament to Ferris’ ability to evoke emotion, even in his catchier songs.
The songwriting on Metanoia is particularly impressive, with Ferris crafting lyrics that are not only introspective but universally relatable. Each track is like a chapter of a storybook, drawing listeners in with its honesty and vulnerability. Melodically the album is rich and textured, with layers of synths and percussion that create an immersive experience.
Tracks like, “Faith” , “Wonder”, and “Pretty Song” stand out for their emotive qualities and intricate production. Ferris’ knack for combining catchy hooks with profound lyrics makes it quite evident throughout the album, making it a standout album in the Indie/Chillwave music landscape. Overall, Metanoia is a testament to Kid Ferris’ artistic growth and vision. It’s an album that not only showcases his musical talent but also invites listeners to ride along with him and explore deeper aspects of themselves, or to simply appreciate the change the world has to offer, learning as they listen how to take it in and grow.
