What’s Going On: 04/04 – 04/11
1. Sleigh Bells w/ Javelin & Elite Gymnastics
Where: Roseland Theater
How Much: $20
When: Saturday, April 7th – 9pm
Why: Serving up refreshing pop music with some bite to it, this Brooklyn duo hit the road earlier this year in support of their sophomore effort, Reign of Terror. The band’s publicist describes the new album as: “The sonic equivalent of a beautiful shotgun to the head.” Known for their energetic live shows, a boombastic drum machine and guitarist Derek Miller (along with a second touring guitarist) pairs ridiculously well with Alexis Krauss’ poppy vocals.
2. Heartless Bastards w/ David Vandervelde & Brian Lopez
Where: Aladdin Theater
How Much: $18
When: Sunday, April 8th – 8pm
Why: By the way of Cincinnati and presently based in Austin, The Heartless Bastards roll into town in support of their eclectic fourth album, Arrow. Leading lady Erika Wennerstrom’s heartfelt voice is pleading a different case this time around: “The Mountain was me going through some things after being in a relationship for nine years. This album is kind of like me being comfortable again.” And boy, did she ever get comfy. With an extra guitarist and the help of a few original members, Arrow marks a new beginning for the band.
3. Oberhofer w/ POND
Where: Mississippi Studios
How Much: $9/$11
When: Monday, April 9th – 9pm
Why: Starting off recording his tunes in the basement of his parent’s house, Brad Oberhofer’s catchy surf-pop songs soon became too big to contain. After charming us with “Away Frm U” and “o0Oo0Oo”, he took a sabbatical before debuting his first proper full-length, Time Capsules II. The sugary, hook-laden tracks were well worth the wait. Joining the Tacoma native are members of Tame Impala’s new vehicle, POND.
