Night Heron takes us back to the garden with their new video for “Easier”
Night Heron has returned, though it’s possible they never left. It’s possible they were here all along, gliding there in the dusky light, just on the other side of sleep. It has been a year to the day since they released their debut album, Instructions For The Night, a smooth synth-driven ride through the neon-lit darkness of 2021. The band is back with a new video for their single “Easier,” which takes us back to the beginning. The video for “Easier” serves as a prequel to last year’s video for “Dreamz,” a collaboration between Night Heron and Comala-based production company La Musa Fea, which finds the group’s dreamy style steeped in the rich tradition of Mexican psychedelia.
To label the video for “Easier” a prequel to “Dreamz” is to establish at least a loose chronology, although both videos are clearly set in a place where time dilates and slows, where colors bleed and run, and where death and life dance hand and hand in the garden. It’s also a reversal of the order in which the tracks appear on the album, further troubling attempts to parse out what happens when. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter. The music takes over as night falls, and we’re along for the ride.
