What’s Going On: 05/22 – 05/29
1. The Kids w/ Mean Jeans & Thee Chemicals
Where: Star Theater
How Much: $12
When: Saturday, May 25th, 9:00pm
Why: Classic punk all the way from Belgium! Formed in 1976 with a twelve-year-old drummer, the trio is noted for their pure energy and tapping into the international punk scene opening up for Iggy Pop and Patti Smith. With Thee Chemicals and Mean Jeans opening, I wouldn’t sit on this one–get your tickets!
2. SUUNS w/ Rose Windows
Where: Doug Fir
How Much: $10
When: Sunday, May 26th – 9:00pm
Why: So you didn’t get your tickets in time for Tame Impala, well you’re in luck because this experimental psychedelic group from Montreal is going to knock your socks off. As a personal highlight of Austin Psych Fest this year, SUUNS are a well-oiled machine live and I can only imagine how spot-on their sound will be at Doug Fir. You’re in for a treat.
3. The XX w/ Hundred Waters
Where: Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall
How Much: $29 – $76
When: Monday, May 27th – 7:30pm
Why: Perhaps tickets are a tad bit spendy, but you know it will be well worth it! You will definitely want to show up early to see Gainesville, Florida’s Hundred Waters. First, take a listen to their self-titled debut and then get ready for the band’s improvisational tendencies and experimental live renditions that will leave you speechless.
