What’s Going On: 10/17 – 10/24
1. Nick Waterhouse w/ Allah-Las & DJ Beyonda Doubt
Where: Star Theater
How Much: $10
When: Wednesday, October 17th – 9pm
Why: Please don’t call it a throwback – Nick Waterhouse has been playing those six strings since he was 12 years old. A delicious stew of sound consisting of tasty mouthfuls from R&B to jazz and soul. He self-produced a 45 single in an all-analog Southern California studio, “Some Place“, and hasn’t looked back since. Now on tour in support of his first full-length, he’s brought his equally talented friends, Allah-Las, along for the ride.
2. Cheap Time w/ Unnatural Helpers, The Tough Shits & Piss Test
Where: Dante’s
How Much: $8
When: Thursday, October 18th – 9pm
Why: Hailing from Nashville’s hotbed of garage-rock, Cheap Time is a three-piece fronted by Jeffry Novak. Novak excutes his catchy garage rock tunes with a snotty snarl, and this is most apparent on the band’s third LP, Wallpaper Music. The band has played with the likes of Jay Reatard, Yo La Tengo, and Guitar Wolf. Joining the night’s attitude-driven festivities are Seattle’s Unnatural Helpers, Philly’s The Tough Shits, and locals Piss Test.
3. First Aid Kit w/ Dylan LeBlanc
Where: Roseland
How Much: $18/$20
When: Friday, October 19th – 8pm
Why: Swedish internet sensations, sister duo of Johanna and Klara Söderberg, perfectly harmonize (gotta love DNA) in their folk-influenced songs drawing comparisons to Fleet Foxes and Joanna Newsom. Constantly creating buzz with 2010’s The Big Black & The Blue and most recently with 2012’s The Lions Roar. Need further proof of these supremely talented ladies?
