Today Blur announced they’ll be releasing The Magic Whip, the group’s first album in 12 years (since 2003’s Think Tank) on April 27th at a live streamed press conference with Zane Lowe at a Chinese restaurant in London. The album was recorded at Avon Studios in Kawloon, Hong Kong during a five day break from touring in 2013, and recently revisited by guitarist Graham Coxon, Damon Albarn and producer Stephen Street. The Asian theme extends to the record’s album art, the above lyric video for “Go Out” and the fact that today is the first day of the Chinese New Year.
The band also announced they’ll be headlining a show in Hyde Park on June 20th for a record forth time. When asked if Blur will be touring America in support of the record, Albarn replied (in typically cheeky fashion), “Maybe, if anyone is interested.”
