Portland quintet The Weather Machine formed in 2012 after singer Slater Smith meet guitarist Colin Robson at an open-mic in Pacific City, Oregon.  The pair gelled and decided to record Smith’s songs in Robson’s studio with help from cellist Mathew Cartmill and Smith’s brother Tanner on drums.  The resulting 2013 self-titled record had a enjoyably familiar, foggy Pacific Northwest folk tone to the songs and brought the band some well-deserved praise.

Today sees the release of the group’s sophomore LP, Peach, one that finds the young band expanding its sound and boldly trying out new ways to push their boundaries.  The lineup has solidified since The Weather Machine, with the band adding bassist Nick Hamel and Luke Hoffman replacing Tanner Smith on drums, moves which no doubt bolstered the band’s confidence.  While still a folk-influenced rock band at heart, Peach sees the band not only expanding into a more straightforward rock sound on many songs, it also sees them exploring country-tinged songs (“Wannabe Cowboys”) and even some slow-burn electronica (“Peach”).

Give Peach a listen and then head here to purchase the album directly from the band.
