Premiere: Souvenir Driver

Influenced by a Nietzsche quote (“Mankind is a dangerous crossing”), current events, and personal lives, Portland based band Souvenir Driver continues their evolution of psych/gaze into darker, moodier, and murkier territory.

With Bob Mild on drums/percussion, Josh Kalberg on bass and vocals, Travis Hendricks on synth/keys, percussion and vocals, and Nate Wey on guitar, vocals, and some additional ambient sound, Souvenir Driver started out of the ashes of psych group Happy Prescriptions. What began as a solo album in 2011 soon blossomed into a unit, writing collectively and incorporating elements of psych, shoegaze, and indie. They have played PDX Pop Now, Desert Stars Festival in Joshua Tree, and have provided direct support for bands such as Dandy Warhols, Froth, Swervedriver, and Mark Gardner (of Ride), with music licensed to shows on MTV among other networks.

Their 4th full length album as a band is thematic with a sonic cohesion that tells a story and focuses on the underlying sense of doom that society has been feeling recently. In that sense, it is vaguely political, universal and emotional in its approach.

Their new album will be released May 3rd via IS/WAS.
