What’s Going On: 7/20 – 7/27
1. PDX Pop Now!
Where: Refuge PDX (116 SE Yamhill St)
How Much: FREE!
When: Friday, July 22nd – Sunday, July 24th
Why: Free! All ages! Delicious foodcarts: Koi Fusion, Violetta, The Dog House, Townshend Tea, Fifty Licks Ice Cream, and Sizzle Pie. Oh yeah, and I guess a few bands are playing? One hell of a line-up featuring: And And And, Archers, Blood Beach, Blouse, Guidance Counselor, Karen, Purple & Green, Radiation City, The Reservations, Weinland, the Woolen Men, and more! Kicking off at 6pm on Friday, grab some friends and get your butts there!
2. Jeremy Messersmith w/ The Lumineers
Where: Mississippi Studios
How Much: $8 (adv)/$10 (21+)
When: Friday, July 22nd
Why: Last summer the feel-good indie pop songwriter left his home in Minneapolis to hit the road all by his lonesome. Maybe it got a little too lonely because this summer he packed his van full of some of his best friends–who will also double as his backing band. Although they’ll be busy playing nearly every night, the group plans on doing a little site seeing. Recording in graveyards counts as site seeing, right?
3. Thurston Moore w/ Kurt Vile & The Violators
Where: Aladdin Theater
How Much: $20 (+21)
When: Saturday, July 23rd – 9pm
Why: A couple days shy of his 53rd (holy crap that makes me feel old) birthday, Sonic Youth’s frontman comes to Portland in support of his third solo album. With a little production help from friend Beck Hansen (yes, that Beck), Demolished Thoughts is beautifully written and flawlessly executed. If you’ve been at PDX Pop Now! all day, think of this as your much needed nightcap.
