What’s Going On: 11/14 – 11/21
1. Diamond Rings w/ Gold Fields
Where: Doug Fir
How Much: $12
When: Wednesday, November 14th – 9pm
Why: Diamond Rings is an extra personal emotional outlet for Toronto based artist and musician John O. When not writing biographies in the third person, he can be found in his room composing lyrically evocative pop songs on a stolen keyboard, borrowed laptop, and second hand guitar. Australian pop outfit, Gold Fields, sets the mood with their ’80s new wave-influenced dance-pop.
2. Beat Connection w/ Magic Fades & ODESZA
Where: Holocene
How Much: $8/$10
When: Thursday, November 15th – 8:30pm
Why: Seattle’s trop psych pop quartet, Beat Connection had one heck of a 2011: UK tour with Toro Y Moi and Holy Ghost!, added a live drummer, embarked on their first US tour opening for Starfucker, and was named Best New Band of 2011 by Seattle Weekly. 2012 hasn’t been too shabby either: added vocalist/guitarist Tom Eddy and released their debut full-lengh, The Palace Garden. Whew!
3. The Whines w/ Still Caves, The Slidells & Scared Crow
Where: Kenton Club
How Much: Free
When: Saturday, November 17th – 9:30pm
Why: The Whines, who had one of the best local album so of 2010 (Hell To Play), are back playing around town and have some new songs for your listening pleasure. In a world of fuzzed out garage rock vocals hidden by guitars, Karianne Oudman’s cuts through like a knife. Of course you’ll want to get to this free show early to catch openers The Slidells, Scared Crow, and one of my favorites of 2012, Still Caves.
