Video Premiere: Martha Stax “Your Style”
In Portland party fashion, Martha Stax’s “Your Style” is an anthem of fun, community and how music brings friends together. Filmed by local artist and musician, Sarah Kue (Wet Dream) with film assistant Jeff Tuyay (Dim Wit), the minimalist lyrics ring out in brass notes and glitter: “Hey you, I like your style.”
It’s hard not to like their style, with old school rock n’ roll sensibilities, swing inspired brass and honest and playful composition. Made up of current line-up Nate Lown (Vocals/Guitar), Anna Smith (Vocals/Guitar), Nicole McCabe (Saxophone/Vocals), Adriana “Goldie” Wagner (Trombone/Vocals), Darin O’Brien (Bass guitar), Clinton O’Brien (Drums), and Jeff Evans—with alliterate line up for “Your Style”: Brette Irish on Vocals and Percussion, andAlex Radakovich on Drums—Martha Stax is a full party anywhere they go!
The music itself is colorful, matching carefully the genuine “romp and circumstance” presented in video form. “We took this video as a great opportunity to gather Portlands vibrant music community and threw a dance party,” said the band, “It was an open invite for anyone to stop by and dance around on a cat walk, while DJ Papi Fimbres (Mascaras, Wet Fruit, etc.) played records. We wanted to create an environment where we built each other up and encouraged everyone’s personal style.”
Be sure to catch their video premiere performance tonight at Mississippi Studios, with Queen Elizabeth and Schaus; 9pm, $5 tickets
